Fort Lauderdale Adopt A Neighbor Program

04/29/2014

Fort Lauderdale Builds Community through "Adopt A Neighbor" program.

The City of Fort Lauderdale is proud to announce the launch of a new Adopt-A-Neighbor initiative. The program pairs caring volunteers with homeowners to build community by enhancing properties and beautifying neighborhoods throughout Fort Lauderdale. Spearheaded by the City’s Department of Sustainable Development in partnership with the Division of Neighbor Support, the Adopt-A-Neighbor program is a unique collaboration among the City, its neighborhood associations and local community organizations.

The Adopt-A-Neighbor program was developed to help low-income, elderly or disabled homeowners bring their properties into compliance. City employees help identify potential program participants and then match them with a local volunteer organization. The volunteer organization works directly with the neighbor to address code concerns and beautify their property.

The program kicked off on Saturday, March 15, when more than 20 volunteers from several City departments volunteered to paint and landscape a local neighbor’s property. The City of Fort Lauderdale looks forward to helping many neighbors in the future, as we strive to enhance the quality of life for our residents and achieve the community vision as “The City You Never Want to Leave.” For more information on the Adopt-A-Neighbor program, please call the City’s Neighbor Volunteer Office at (954) 828-8658.
