Noise Related Violations

Noise is often regulated in a variety of ways, for instance what device is making the noise?  A jack hammer, train whistle or car stereo may all be treated differently depending on the circumstances. How far from the source can the noise still be heard and at what time of day does the noise have to occur before it is considered a nuisance? Actual decibel readings from an approved noise meter may be necessary to determine if the requirements are being met for a variety of zoning land categories; residential, commercial or industrial etc. Noise violations are typically investigated by the police department since most complaints are received late at night and may be confrontational in nature.
